2 for the price of 1!

The project I'm meant to be doing has been signed off. This has made things a lot better. Also making things better yesterday was the fact that I solved a rather awkward and intricate support problem that I'd been looking at.

I also spent most of yesterday fidgeting with a certain photo trying to reduce it to a two-tone graphic to add to the diary. You may have noticed that the Easter Island Man who now lives in our garden is now sitting on top of the side panels of the diary. If you haven't noticed that, I'd be somewhat concerned.

Sent a vaguely panicky text to my Sister-in-Law-to-be this morning checking what airline her and my brother are flying out on for their honeymoon. With the prospect of BA strikes looming, even though it looks like the dispute is gonna be over quite quickly regardless of the outcome given how fast these things tend to move in the travel industry, it was good to know that I wasn't going to find my socialist principles caught in a dilemma between supporting the rights of the worker and not wanting the honeymoon to be ruined. Double-standards? Definitely. Consider it something of a "2 for 1" offer.

During the past 2 or 3 days around other stuff we've been up to, we've fitted in finally watching the two American Pie movies again. If you find yourself cringeing the first time you see them, that's nothing compared to the second time when you know what's coming. We were clinging to each other more than if we were watching some shock-a-moment horror flick. The other thing I don't understand is how come in the AP flicks Mena Suvari looks really fit and any other time you see her, whether in photo-shoots or other movies, she's just mingingly skinny?

I refuse to be jubilant at the death of Saddam's sons. Not out of support for them, because there is no doubt that they were Evil Motherfuckers(TM), but because I do not see any death as a reason for jubilation, regardless of the individual's sins. If I was a little closer to the situation I can see that this viewpoint may not hold (see above comment on double-standards), but seeing it as news from a distance, I find it distateful that there is international celebration at the snuffing out of human lives. I know that some people are going to say "yeah, but they snuffed out countless lives themselves, they deserve to die", but I don't go along with that. Sorry.

Oh, and I finally sorted out our comms provider. This time next month our phone and TV will no longer be provided by cable, as I have finally gotten round to acting on what I said in this letter. So next month we will be getting satellite TV and the more conventional phone line. Possibly slightly hypocritical of me to keep cable broadband, but really there's no way I can get something equivalent for anything like the same cost. Again, 2 for 1.
