Covered In Beeeeeees

Last night we went round to EABOTS's for dinner. Admittedly I had to phone her from outside the house to find out how to get into the house, these things happen when you have to go up stairs through someone else's back garden to get to their flat.

We had a good evening, chatted a lot, bitched a lot about our former colleagues (although in my case they're still kinda colleagues), and saw her photos from her round-the-world trip a couple of years ago.

We got back late-ish but not too late, got to bed at a reasonable time, and then when I got up this morning I was my usual not-quite-all-there self. What I'd failed to take account of was the fact that Alison had been drinking the night before. She wasn't quite hungover, but had rather more cobwebs that needed blowing away than usual.

And then a parcel arrived :-D Well, that's the end of the story. The beginning of the story is yesterday lunchtime, when I gave in to the need to order the stuff I wanted to buy on my Bonus, and ordered 600 quid's worth of merchandise from two websites that tend to specialise in DVDs. About 40 quid of the stuff ordered wasn't DVDs. Anyway, it would seem that dvd.co.uk are "wicked fast" at turning orders around, as this morning Seasons 4 and 5 of Buffy, Seasons 1 and 2 of Angel, and Taken arrived.

Also this morning discovered that my diary had gotten a rather disturbing Google hit. I followed the google link off my stats page so I could find out what entry it was pointing to, for putting the link on my googles page, and then was once again disturbed. So I'm trying to decide which is more disturbing, the fact that someone came to my diary after searching for "Buffy Faith Cunt", or the fact that their google search also pulled up a link to one of my more adult BtVS fics. The search had found the fic archived on someone else's site, but that's not the really the point, is it? LOL.

Something I forgot to mention in my last update was that we have a bees' nest under our garage. We've been noticing bees quite like our garage for some time, but we thought a) it was just one bee, and bee) it was just one stupid bee. Over the weekend Alison noticed that there was a slow but constant stream of bees in and out of the garage, and that they were heading for behind a particular set of drawers at the top of the garage.

The other night we then moved all the furniture out of the way and then watched to see where the bees went. As it turned out, since we'd rearranged half the garage, the bees had lost all their landmarks and the two that were in the garage at the time just started circling uncertainly. About 50% of the bees that then came and went were unphased by the change of layout to the garage, and for the benefit of the other 50% I wanted to get a piece of chalk and draw a runway on the garage floor, ending at the crack in the concrete that we had established was their destination.

So yes, there are lots of bumble bees living under our garage. This doesn't really bother us, as they tend to be fairly relaxed as they amble through our airspace. In fact, it's kind of endearing to watch. Obviously it will be shit-scary once they decide to swarm, but we'll deal with that as and when it happens. And try to capture the moment on digital camera, obviously.

I believe it's my penultimate signing class tonight. Two weeks on Saturday is the exam, which I'm dreading. I really don't want to fail a second time. Then that evening Anne and Jess will be joining us for a late celebration of Anne's birthday, which I'm not dreading. On the contrary I'm really looking forward to it. Trying to work out how to surprise Anne with her present seeing as she already knows I'll be getting her pretty much what she got me earlier in the year, for the exactly the same reason.

And when looking at the picture for this article, the first word that springs to mind is "saggy".

BREAKING NEWS: Following a helpful heads-up from Ros, I have just booked tickets for Alison and myself to go see Eddie Izzard in December. Might have to go and order The Circle on DVD to make sure I'm up to date, since I've never quite got around to buying it before now. Aren't lame excuses wonderful? :-D
