The Road To Warwick 3

Today it just keeps seeming like it never stops. But we have done a lot. The bill for the weekend is approaching two grand.

Today started boldly with the purchase of a cooker. We decided in the end that a 50cm wide cooker was plenty for us, because all the 60cm cookers looked fucking huge. Obviously it'd be nice to have a range, but a) we don't have room, and b) we don't have the money. So instead, a nice quiet unassuming gas stove. Did you know Stoves was actually a brand name? We didn't until about a week ago. Anyway, we bought a Stoves stove. Cunning huh?

The afternoon was where it got complicated. We began with a trip to Focus, to buy a load of electrical stuff (replacing all the sockets as we decorate) and some tools, and, uh, other stuff. Then we went to Carpet Right to look for remnants that would be suitable for carpeting the bedrooms, and what do you know, we actually found two that we really liked. And they were next to each other on the display, which is kinda freaky. It was like they already knew.

One of the things we'd been looking for in Focus but hadn't found was paint for the bedroom (which until Thursday night we'd decided we were gonna paper). So anyway, we trekked over to Homebase to look there, and found the colour we wanted in a colour chart, but couldn't find any of the damn paint. Alison was sure she'd seen some in Focus, so we went back there. The alarming thing about this was, as we flitted back and forth between DIY stores, we kept seeing the same cars and the same people in different stores. People, as has often been documented, are strange.

So, the scores on the doors...

  • Solicitor paid off: Tick!
  • Life Assurance etc arranged: Semi-Tick
  • Cable TV/Phone/Internet transfer arranged: Tick!
  • Focus Homebuyers discount card blagged: Tick!
  • All Paint Bought: Tick!
  • Gas/Electricity Transfer arranged: *THRRPT*
  • Hire Van booked for moving day: *THRRPT*
  • Kitchen ordered: Tick!
  • Cooker ordered: Tick!
  • Carpets bought: Tick!
  • Packing completed: Semi-Tick
  • Fed up with packing: Tick!
  • All necessary change-of-address stuff done: *THRRPT*
  • Please Forward To: labels bought and printed for new tenants at old address: Tick!

Actually, the strange thing about new tenants... since we've given in our notice, we haven't heard a thing about people coming over for viewings. Not that we're complaining, because the place is in a state, but it just strikes us as odd.
